Your full or incremental crawl fails at the root of the site collection and skips the entire site collection and gives you a generic "can not crawl site" error in your crawl log. In the ULS log you see "GetSite fail. error 2147755542, strSiteUrl http://myawesomesite.com".
In my case the site collection was set to read-only. Setting the site collection to unlocked allowed search to crawl correctly.
